According to a Politico exclusive, Biden is the top of Clinton’s short list to be Secretary of State in the event of a Clinton win.

Sources told Politico that although Biden is at the top of the shortlist, the Clinton campaign has yet to reach out the Vice President about the job offer.

Biden might be one of the most experienced democrats for the position of Secretary of State. In Biden’s later years as a senator, he was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

As vice president, Biden has been seen as one of President Obama’s closest advisors, being a part of the decision-making process for demanding international issues such as the Ukrainian crisis.

This is the first leak from the Clinton campaign about potential cabinet members.

At the beginning of the 2016 election cycle, many Democrats wanted Biden to run. It is quite possible that the Clinton campaign strategically decided to leak this information to Politico during the home-stretch of the election in order to motivate democratic voters who might feel apathetic toward Clinton.

According to a Gallup poll in mid-July of this year, Joe Biden’s favorability ratings are up to 48-percent. So the idea of Joe Biden remaining in the White House under another position might be appealing to voters. Biden also appeals to voters that Hillary finds some trouble with: white working class voters.

I’ve written before that Biden might be Clinton’s secret weapon. Now, not only as a surrogate, but as a potential Secretary of State.

The only question now is whether he will accept the job and frankly that sort of remains a mystery at this point in time. Biden has mentioned time after time that he looks forward to resting after his time ends with the Obama administration.

However, he might be game to take on a new challenge. At an impromptu visit to a Clinton campaign office in Ohio, Biden mentioned that he is interested in being involved with something to do with domestic and foreign policy. But also joked that he might write another book.

So, Secretary of State Biden? How does that sound?
