Donald Trump officially took Arizona’s 11 electoral votes Thursday. The race was too close to call because over 600,000 votes had not been counted, but Arizona officially went red.

Az Gov. Doug Ducey was a proud supporter of Trump and encouraged Arizonans to vote for him. Trump and Ducey rallied their supporters behind the issue of illegal immigration and the need to build a wall. Trump also raised support in Arizona by tapping into peoples’ dislike of Hillary Clinton and highlighting her controversial character.

However, a few weeks before the election Hillary Clinton saw Arizona as an opportunity  and poured millions into the state. Clinton gained support in Arizona through the Latino vote. Clinton lost to Trump by 4 percentage points in Arizona, unlike Obama who lost by 9 percent of the vote to his Republican opponent.

But in the end, Arizona stayed true to their past decade of voting history and went red once again.
